About the Author
My name is Demira Hymes, and I am a licensed social worker with a heart for helping children thrive. Working in the school setting, I am passionate about supporting kids as they navigate their emotions, build confidence, and develop healthy coping skills. Inspired by real-life experiences with students, I wrote Jonah's Bad Day to provide children with a relatable story that encourages emotional awareness and resilience.

The idea for Jonah's Bad Day was born from countless conversations with students who felt overwhelmed by big emotions but didn’t know how to express or manage them. I strongly believe that every child deserves to feel heard, understood, and empowered — and I hope this story helps kids recognize that even on tough days, they are never alone.

When not writing or working with students, I enjoy spending time with my husband and sons.

A Message for Parents and Educators
As a social worker, I have seen firsthand how powerful it can be when adults create safe spaces for children to share their feelings. Jonah's Bad Day is designed to spark meaningful conversations and provide children with tools to express themselves in healthy ways. By reading this story together, adults can help children build emotional awareness, develop problem-solving skills, and feel supported through life’s challenges.
